The CalFire Fee:  Don’t Pay More Than You Must                                                                              12/11/2012

Update: Bills will be mailed to Trinity property owners Oct 24, 2013. Appeals...

In July 2011, in response to budget crisis, the California Legislature and Governor Brown imposed a new fee on owners of habitable (i.e. residential) structures located in generally-forested areas of the state.

Trinity County residents may soon be receiving bills from the State for $150. Bills must be paid within 30 days to avoid penalty.

Homes located “within the boundary of a local agency that provides fire protection services” should receive a $35 reduction in the fee. (This is supposed to occur automatically, but in at least 1 case it did not.) If your property is within the Weaverville Fire District boundary ( map… ), but you do not receive the reduction: pay the bill, then file a “Petition for Redetermination” within 30 days.
